What is Cystitis? – Cystitis is the medical term for inflammation of the bladder.
What causes Cystitis? – Cystitis can be infectious (bacterial, viral, yeast induced) or noninfectious (interstitial cystitis ,drug-induced cystitis ,radiation cystitis ,foreign-body cystitis ,chemical cystitis and cystitis associated with other conditions) origin .Most cases of bacterial cystitis is caused by Escherichia coli 80%. Women are anatomically predisposed to bacterial cystitis because their urethra is shorter and the anal and genital regions are in close proximity, making it more likely that bacteria might spread from anal region and colonize the vagina.
What are the symptoms of Cystitis?
•A strong, persistent urge to urinate
•A burning sensation when urinating
•Passing frequent, small amounts of urine
•Blood in urine (hematuria)
•Passing cloudy or strong-smelling urine
•Pelvic discomfort
•A feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen
•Low-grade fever
Role of Bacteriophage therapy in Cystitis – Therapy with phages in bacterial cystitis can be very effective. A bacteriophage is a type of virus that infects bacteria. It has some unique advantages over antibiotics and can also be used in combinational therapy. Bacteriophage therapy doesn’t offer 100 % result.
